Rev. Green continues a new Sermon Series entitled, Understanding Yourself to Love God. During this series, personality types will be explored to shed light on how to get to know yourself. In turn, this helps us to know and understand God’s divine love. Sermons have focused on the personality traits of those who need for things to be perfects, those who need to be needed by others, those who need success, and those who need to feel special. Within the sermons, Rev. Green gives advice on how to tackle negative qualities of each personality type while uplifting positive qualities.

First Steps – March 28, 2022

How challenging it is to accept forgiveness.  To really accept it, to own it, and to possess it, one has to realize there is a need. Likewise, one has to acknowledge that he or she can’t do it alone and that it is a gift of another’s generosity.  How challenging it is indeed to accept God’s forgiveness.  Unfortunately, there is something inside of human nature that resists this degree of grace. On one level, a person either seeks to prove in action or thought, that his/her sin is real-ly too much or dark for God’s grace to overcome.  On another level, one might partially receive God’s grace but on conditional terms, because deep down he or she wants to pay God back for the gift given.  Neither one will do.

Eventually, every person has to grapple with a few questions:  Do I honestly want to be forgiven and began a new life in Christ? Do I want to break away from my deep-rooted selfishness and totally surrender my will to God’s grace so that a new day may emerge?  Total surrender involves a regime change where God leads and the person follows.  As long as one believes he or she can dictate the terms or control the outcomes, he or she will always be a hired servant (Luke 15) and push against a wall.  To claim and live into the dignity and place God desires, surrender is a must.

Trotter Talks Bible Study – Friends of God – Episode 3

Emily Trotter continues her Bible Study on “Friends of God”. This is Episode 3 in the series.

Notes from the Bible Study:

Joseph is our focus this week.

Genesis 37-50

Joseph was sold by his brothers.

Ch. 39

v. 21

The way Joseph lived his life brought blessings to the house where he stayed (v.5).

Ch. 41
Joseph is put in prison, but is put in charge of other prisoners. There, Joseph interprets the dreams of others. He is sent to the Pharoah. He interprets his dream as 7 years of greatness and 7 years of famine. Pharoah favored Joseph and he stayed within his kingdom. But Joseph remained true to God.

Ch. 42
The famine occurs. The Egyptians have stores of grains because of Joseph’s interpretation of Pharoah’s dream and because of Pharoah’s planning.

Joseph’s brothers come to Egypt seeking food.

Jacob dies and is buried in Israel. Even Pharoah comes to the burial.

Ch. 50
V.19-21. God will make good the bad that we have done.

70 members of Joseph’s family go to Egypt until the Exodus, when there were over 600,000.

There is a PURPOSE, though there may be hardship.
