In This Episode: Manning writes that getting honest with ourselves does not make us unacceptable to God. It does not distance us from God. Rather, it draws us to Him as nothing else can. It opens us anew to God’s flow of grace. When we think we are better than we are, Manning would tell us that our halos are too tight.

Joshua tells the people of Israel that they must choose this day whom they will serve (Joshua 24:14-15). As for Joshua and his house, they would choose to serve the Lord. What if this is the challenge that we give ourselves each day? What if each morning we deliberately and intentionally chose to serve the Lord? If we don’t choose, then something else will inevitably choose us.
God continues to pursue us because we are created in His image. This is an example of His grace. Unfortunately, our understanding of grace is a mile wide and an inch deep.
What are our motives when it comes to living out our faith? We need to learn to think big about God. We need to renew our minds and see ourselves as God sees us. The Ragamuffin Gospel is about Jesus accepting and loving people right where they are.
